Mike Shanahan has decided to replace quarterback Jake Plummer with rookie Jay Cutler.
The news doesn't come as a big surprise. Rumors have been circulating for the past few days. Now ... It's official.
"Jay Cutler will be our starting quarterback next Sunday night," said Mike Shanahan. Broncos Head Coach Mike Shanahan has made his decision. And while Jake Plummer obviously isn't too happy. Jay Cutler is. "I'm excited. A little nervous." The change at quarterback has received mixed reviews in the Broncos locker room. "We all haven't done our job and as a result one guy is losing his job and when that guy is a teammate and a friend, it hurts," said John Lynch, Broncos Safety. "I've got confidence in Jay. I think he's got a great arm. He's done a good job so far," said Stephen Alexander, Broncos Tight End. Jay Cutler hasn't taken a snap in the regular season. But, was impressive in the pre-season. "Hopefully I can give us a little spark. We're going to get things turned around. We have too much talent and too much character on this team, not too," said Cutler. "There will be growing pains. There will be many mistakes that will happen. But, he's going to be our guy," said Shanahan. Obviously, the future is now.
Cutler will make his regular season debut on national TV Sunday night against Seattle.
