Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan has announced that rookie quarterback Jay Cutler will start in Sunday night's game against Seattle to replace veteran Jake Plummer.

Cutler -- who was the eleventh pick out of Vanderbilt in the draft last April -- hasn't taken a snap since the preseason.

And it's the first time Plummer's been benched for a reason other than an injury for the first time in his ten-year career. He's 39-and-15 as Denver's starter in the regular season.

But the Broncos are coming off two straight losses for the first time in two years heading into Sunday's home game against defending the defending N-F-C champion Seattle Seahawks.

Shanahan says he hopes a quarterback change can ignite the team's struggling offense. The team is 26th in the league in passing yards per game at 171-point-five.

Cutler's passer rating of 109-point-three led the league in the preseason.
