No. 27 is going to be back on the field for the Denver Broncos this season.
First-round draft pick and running back Knowshon Moreno will be wearing it.
It's the same number worn by Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams, who was killed in a drive-by shooting Jan. 1, 2007.
Moreno wore the No. 24 while at the University of Georgia, but that number was already in use in Denver by cornerback Champ Bailey.
Club spokesman Jim Saccomano says Moreno decided to take No. 27 after speaking by phone to the Williams' mother, who said she had no objections.
Saccomano says both Moreno and the club felt that touching base with Williams' mother was the right thing to do before putting the jersey back in use.
