Coach Mike Shanahan says Denver Broncos rookie running back Ryan Torain is expected to miss about three months after undergoing surgery Thursday for a broken bone in his left elbow.
A somber Shanahan talked in a near-whisper about Torain Thursday morning, but wouldn't respond when asked if Torain's injury was a blow to the organization.
Andre Hall, one of the Broncos' three remaining healthy running backs, says the loss of Torain "messes things up."
Torain is a fifth-round draft pick out of Arizona State.
He was flipped while rushing during 9-on-7 drills on Wednesday. Torain was hit by linebackers Jordan Beck and Spencer Larsen and safety Roderick Rogers, and put out his left arm to brace his fall.
Shanahan isn't speculating on how the missed practice time will affect Torain's ability to make the team.
