Broncos Sign Three Draft PIcks

The Denver Broncos on Wednesday signed three players whom they selected in the 2008 NFL Draft. The club signed running back Ryan Torain (Rd. 5-139, Arizona State), defensive tackle Carlton Powell (Rd. 5-148, Virginia Tech) and linebacker Spencer Larsen (Rd. 6-183, Arizona).

Torain (6-foot-1, 225 pounds) averaged 93.8 rushing yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry in two seasons at Arizona State University after transferring from Butler Community College (El Dorado, Kan.). In 19 career games (14 starts) at Arizona State, Torain rushed 333 times for 1,782 yards (5.4 avg.) with 12 touchdowns and caught 25 passes for 305 yards (12.2 avg.) with five scores.

He averaged 92.2 rushing yards per game in six contests (6 starts) for the Sun Devils as a senior in 2007, finishing the year with 553 rushing yards on 110 carries (5.0 avg.) with five touchdowns.

A first-team all-state pick at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Shawnee Mission, Kan., Ryan Torain was born on Aug. 10, 1986.

Powell (6-foot-2, 300 pounds) started 13 games in each of his final two seasons at Virginia Tech University, helping the Hokies rank no worse than fourth in the nation in yards per game and points per game allowed during those campaigns. He appeared in 52 career games (32 starts) at Virginia Tech, totaling 107 tackles (37 solo), 6.5 sacks (45 yds.), two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

As a senior in 2007, Powell recorded a career-high 39 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 14 games (13 starts).

A PrepStar all-region selection at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake Va., Carlton Powell was born on Aug. 14, 1985.

Larsen (6-foot-2, 240 pounds) was a two-time All-Pacific-10 Conference choice at the University of Arizona, where he finished his career ranked 15th in school history with 312 tackles. He played 44 career games (37 starts) for the Wildcats, totaling 312 tackles (209 solo), nine sacks (62 yds.), two interceptions, 12 pass breakups, eight fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles.

As a senior in 2007, Larsen was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection after leading the conference and ranking 13th in the nation with 131 tackles (87 solo) in 12 games (12 starts).

A first-team all-state selection (Arizona Republic) and an all-region choice (SuperPrep) at Gilbert High School in Gilbert, Ariz., Spencer Larsen was born on March 4, 1984.

The Broncos have now signed four of their nine selections from the 2008 NFL Draft
