A Southern Colorado music teacher is revolutionizing the way piano is taught in schools. To do that, he invented a software program called Piano Marvel.

Rye Elementary School is the first in the country to use the program. Now, more than 300 students are using the program and sometimes stay after school to learn to play the piano.

This is not your typical piano lesson. "This program is awesome, it's kind of like a virtual piano lesson," says Caleb Freeburg of Rye Elementary School.

Aaron Garner is teaching all these students piano at the same time
"I can teach 30 of them at a time because of technology," says Garner, inventor of Piano Marvel. "So they begin by first learning rhythm, and then they learn all their notes in the musical alphabet, and then they learn how to put them to the keyboard," says Garner.

By turning practicing the piano into a game, Garner found the way to get students to practice. "It's like a computer game so the kids are addicted," says Garner.

Students like Freeburg and Courtnie Newitt are hooked on it. "I don't know why I like playing the piano. I just think it's cool that you can make songs with it just by pressing the key board keys," says Freeburg. "It really helps a lot, I came in and didn't know anything about the piano and now I know a lot," says Newitt.

And this is just the beginning of what Garner hopes to do for musical education. "My hope is that it revolutionizes our education system in America," says Garner.

Students are liking this program so much that garner is now developing a Guitar Marvel program set to debut next spring.
