Some Pueblo school teachers are leaving work without a contract for next year.
A School District 60 spokesperson says contracts for 77 teachers will not be renewed and the majority of them are not tenured, meaning they're mostly first, second and third year teachers.
The district says the majority of teachers will be hired back for next year, but state law says the school board has to notify teachers by May 15 of the possibility of their contract not being renewed.
The teachers were all notified Thursday night at a special school board meeting.

This is quite concerning to me & I have no ax to grind as I am almost 81 years old & have no connection with any teacher in the district. I haven't read anything suggesting a proportionate cut in pay for those in administration or any contract in administration not being renewed. As usual the cost of administration & their positions are not considered when it comes to reducing operational costs. Barb Clementi's statement makes a great deal of sense, "the large number of non-renewals “doesn’t make sense.”They’re getting 3.1 percent more money this year.” When Covington is replaced, hopefully administration costs will be considered. As far as I'm concerned those in adminnistration have never taught or inspired any student.
