School bullies are taking their tactics online. A Colorado Springs school district reached out Thursday to educate parents on what their kids may be dealing with.
Academy District 20’s safety information meeting was for school kids and moms and dads.
It covered four topics, including the Colorado Springs Police Department supported Safe2Tell program for students and cyber-bullying.
Increased cases of the online and text message battles are drawing attention from schools and parents alike.
"They're going through a difficult time anyway to think there's someone out there that doesn't like them can really hurt their psyche," said Teri Mears, a Colorado Springs parent.
Police officers on hand reported the high tech issue should be handled the old fashioned way. Their first piece of advice: ignore nasty remarks made online to end a cyber war-of-words at the outset.
Officers also added a word for kids, who can face harassment charges if they are caught cyber-bullying.
“Would you say this to a person’s face?” asked Detective Richard W. Hunt.
If not, he encouraged kids to not send the message at all.
