Due to cautions issued by the United States Department of Agriculture, Sodexo food services will suspend serving any peanut butter products at Academy School District 20 schools beginning Tuesday.

The caution is about the possible link between peanut butter and several cases of Salmonella in the United States. Sodexo will substitute Sun Butter, which is made from sunflower seeds, for those school meals that have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on their menus.

But, most D-20 schools are already peanut free because of the risk of allergies. Only three schools were serving peanut butter until the suspension.

This change is in effect until Sodexo receives information from the USDA that peanut butter products are safe.

11 News has been in contact with other Southern Colorado school districts. A District 11 spokesperson says the peanut butter they use is not effected by the recall. Pueblo District 60 says the peanut butter they use is not on the recall list.
