New Bill To Up Importance Of Graduation Rate In CO

Most studies show that retention increases the drop-out rate by 30% for every year a child is held back. Schools in my area leave the final decision up to the principal of the school,no matter how the parents feel, yet the school system insists that parents take an active role in their child's education. This issue needs to be addressed. No principal should be able to make decisions over the parent, especially when it decreases the child's chances of graduation in the future.

Rather than change the standards so that more kids pass (dumb down the curriculum), how about we finally realize that not all students are equal and provide them an opportunity to switch to a trade or technical school following their sophmore year in high school. Let's teach them the skills they will need to provide for themselves in the future rather than worry about whether or not they graduated a certain grade. Let's face it, not everyone is going to become a manager or CEO of a white collar company (the traditional must graduate high school and go to college path). Teach kids skills they can use, let them become experts in that skill through experience in the work force, and then, hold on, let them have the opportunity to own and operate their own business in their field. The same model that made this country great up until the liberal attitude that we must care for everyone and make sure they feel good about themselves.
