A helicopter attacks the fire along Highway 50, west of Canon City.
Highway 50 west of Cañon City has been reopened after a fire shut the highway down Wednesday afternoon.
The highway and the Arkansas River were both closed from Texas Creek to Parkdale. The river has also been reopened.
The blaze, dubbed the Spikebuck fire, burned six acres on land south of Highway 50. It has been contained, but fire crews are remaining on scene to monitor the fire.
“The cooler temperatures and higher humidity have helped us get a handle on this fire,” Keith Berger, BLM Royal Gorge Field Manager, said in a statement. “Thanks to Deer Mountain Fire, Tallahasse Fire, Fremont County, and the Colorado Department of Transportation, we were able to attack this fire quickly.”
