A wildfire that destroyed 22 homes and two other buildings near Estes Park Saturday was likely caused by a power line rubbing against a pine tree.
The electric line in question was on private property on Larkspur Drive. Investigators do not believe the fire to be criminal.
The fire, called the Woodland Heights Fire, began around noon Saturday. It is now fully contained after having burned 27.3 acres.
It destroyed 22 homes and two outbuildings. Residents were allowed to return to undamaged homes after noon Monday.
“I know this area, I lived here for many years in Estes Park. We have friends who live up here. I know some of these people, it’s tough,” Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said after the fire began.
