Unemployment Benefits For Those Impacted By Waldo Canyon Fire

A number of people have not just been displaced from their homes due to the Waldo Canyon fire, but they have been prevented from going to work if their place of employment is within evacuation lines.

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment says that those who have become unemployed because of a wildfire evacuation or because their workplace has been impacted by a wildfire could be eligible for unemployment benefits.

This is a statewide thing, not just for the Waldo Canyon fire.

Below is the release from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. Zip codes in bold are zip codes affected by the Waldo Canyon fire.

This information is from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

If you have become unemployed because of a wildfire evacuation or because your worksite has been impacted by a wildfire,
you may be eligible for unemployment benefits and should file a claim online.

If you live in a wildfire burn area identified by zip code below, the Division of Unemployment Insurance is waiving your
requirement to seek work for the immediate future beginning the week the fire began in your area.

You must continue requesting payment of unemployment benefits as scheduled. As long as fire is the only circumstance that
is preventing you from looking for work, indicate that you are able to work, available for work, and looking for work when you
request payment. All other circumstances will be addressed on a case-by-case basis and must be reported to us.

If you live in the burn area, are receiving the federal extension, also known as Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC),
and were notified to complete a series of reemployment services within six weeks of starting either Tier 1 or Tier 2 of EUC, we
will extend the amount of time in which you are allowed to complete the services for the immediate future. You will still be
required to complete all of the services in the future.

We have identified the following ZIP codes primarily affected by fire:
• 80512
• 80526
• 80535
• 80536
• 80538
• 80809
• 80819
• 80840
• 80904
• 80907
• 80919
• 80921

We will verify that your address is in the burn or evacuation areas. If you are impacted by fire and live outside of the ZIP codes.
