Two Water Drops Aborted Due To People In Fire Perimeter

Two helicopter water drops near the Cave of the Winds had to be aborted Monday because of people who had wandered into the fire area, the Waldo Canyon Fire Joint Information Center reports.

The fire is estimated to be 70 percent contained, but firefighters say they have a significant amount of work remaining. That includes mop-up of hotspots along the fire lines, patrolling fire areas and continued fire line construction.

To do that work safely, everyone is asked to stay out of the Waldo Canyon Fire perimeter.

Also, the U.S. Forest Service is asking everyone to stay out of the Pike Forest from Forest Development Road, FDR, 322 south all the way to the Waldo Canyon Fire area.

For additional information on what areas of the Pike Forest are open to the public please call 719-636-1602.
