As the Springer wildfire burns out of control just south of Lake George, several families are taking shelter at Woodland Park High School.
To date, the fire has forced 150 homes to be evacuated.
Many of the 500 evacuees found other places to go, but several spent the night at the Red Cross shelter in the high school. Those evacuees were joined by more than 60 Boy Scouts from Texas who were evacuated from their campsite in the Lake George area.
The Red Cross volunteers say they’re prepared for many more evacuations Monday if the fire takes a turn for the worst. Several more evacuations could be triggered if the fire jumps across the Platte River or Highway 24.
The Red Cross says volunteers are spread thin between the Springer Fire. For information on how you can help, visit the Pikes Peak Red Cross online.
