A small wildfire burning 50 miles southwest of Colorado Springs Wednesday is contained.
Officials say lightning is to blame for the 5-acre fire, located in the Adobe Creek area of Custer County, close to Wetmore. The fire ignited sometime Wednesday afternoon, and was contained by nightfall.
Though small, flames came uncomfortably close to homes, prompting officials to place a few homes on pre-evacuation notice. The pre-evacuation notice was lifted two hours later. No structures were damaged.
Smoke from the fire was visible for a few miles off Highway 67, Highway 115 and Highway 96.
