No Rest For Firefighters Leaving Waldo Canyon Fire

Even as firefighters get the upper hand on the Waldo Canyon fire burning in El Paso and Teller counties, many more wildfires are burning across the state of Colorado and the western United States.

Friday, the Tier One Response Team, which brought all of the federal assistance for the Waldo Canyon fire will be leaving the area--but there won't be much time for rest.

With nearly 40 wildfires burning in the western U.S.--more than 10 just in Colorado--these firefighters will be jumping immediately from one fire to the next. Many of the firefighters working tirelessly around the clock to contain the Waldo Canyon fire contained will now be assigned to other wildfires burning in the region.

It's not to say that all firefighters are leaving the Pikes Peak region; even after the fire is 100 percent contained--which could happen as early as Friday--a number of local firefighting crews will stay on top of the fire until it is completely out.
