Overall, the Waldo Canyon Fire is now 80 percent contained, but the Colorado Springs Fire Chief says the portion of the fire within the city is fully contained. The fire is the most destructive in Colorado history.
With that positive outlook, the city allowed several more residents to return home to evacuated areas after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. The homes, in areas south of Champagne Drive and north of 30th St., will have water and electricity, but gas service will take more time to restore.
Residents who live on the following streets will be allowed home:
• Champagne Dr.
• Flying W Ranch Rd. south of Champagne Dr.
• Hearthstone Ln.
• Alderstone Way
• Stoneridge Dr.
• Capra Way
• Ramsgate Ter.
• Fieldstone Rd.
• Braeburn Way
• Cameo Way
• Denby Way
• Ellery Ln.
• Alpine Meadows Ln.
• Granby Cir.
• Also included are Capra Way and portions of Lions Gate Lane.
Those who remain on evacuation will have access to their homes on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow your insurance companies to assess your property. [Download the city's map of the remaining evacuations]
Check-in will be at the Verizon building at 2424 Garden of the Gods Road. You'll have to have your Photo ID.
