It's hard to believe two months have past since the Pikes Peak region sat watching, waiting, hoping for the best as the Waldo Canyon fire burned.
While it's simply a tragic memory for many of us, others are working every day to recover from its effects. This includes a long list of businesses who are struggling because of less tourism. Some were forced to shut down.
Leaders from El Paso and Teller counties plan to spend Thursday visiting the businesses near the Waldo Canyon burn area. They hope their visit will give local shops exposure, as well as give these leaders a chance to offer their support by spending their own money at these locations.
Thirty local community leaders will take part in the business tour. They'll visit businesses in Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs, Green Mountain Falls and Woodland Park. The tour will begin just after 9 a.m.
Local leaders hope this type of visibility will help save these businesses, many which have been mainstays in their communities for years.
