A fire that began Monday afternoon near Last Chance has destroyed several homes and evacuated others.
Last Chance is located on the plains east of Denver. Woodrow, which is north of Last Chance, was evacuated.
The so-called "Last Chance Fire" was fanned by winds and quickly grew to consume 38,400 acres. It is estimated to be 50 percent contained.
The fire has destroyed 9 structures, including 2 homes.
CO 71 is closed between Limon and Brush and US 36 is closed between Last Chance and Byers.
