After burning 87,284 acres, the High Park Fire near Fort Collins is now fully contained.

The High Park fire is now blamed for the loss of 259 homes. Until the Waldo Canyon Fire hit Colorado Springs, the fire had held the title of most destructive in the state's history.

The fire became the state's most destructive over the weekend of June 16-17 when the total number of homes destroyed reached 181. The Hayman fire still holds the dubious honor of largest fire.

The number of homes lost to the fire grew greatly when the fire jumped into the Glacier View and Hewlett subdivisions.

Fire commanders say that while the fire is contained, mop-up actions will continue on hotspots near the edge of the fire. They're also continuing to rehabilitate fire lines.

A disaster recovery center is open for victims at Johnson Hall on the Colorado State University Campus. The center is open Mon.-Fri. from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sat.-Sun. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will likely remain open for three or four weeks.

To date, the cost of combating the fire is $38.4 million.
