A fire the flared up in Fountain Monday was caused by an unattended campfire.
The Fountain Fire Department announced the cause Tuesday afternoon.
With a serial arsonist terrorizing Teller County and surrounding areas, the Fountain fire chief told 11 News Monday that the fire was being investigated as "highly suspicious." Thankfully for the city of Fountain, arson had turned out not to be the cause.
The fire at one point was burning "out of control" according to firefighters on the scene, but crews were able to get a handle on it about a half-hour later. They were especially concerned about homes that were approximately 100 yards away. As of Tuesday it is completely out.
The fire was burning near Bandley Drive, which runs parallel to the interstate directly next to it. The fire is located two miles south of exit 132.
Thirty-five firefighters responded to the creek fire.
