An internal investigation into the Black Forest fire chief cost well over $100,000, 11 News has learned.
Black Forest Fire Chief Bob Harvey found himself under fire late last year after El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa accused him of mishandling the Black Forest Fire.
The Black Forest Fire Board hired an independent investigator to look into Maketa's accusations. The investigation absolved Harvey of any wrongdoing--but at a hefty price tag. 11 News has learned it cost almost $117,000 for the independent investigation into the Black Forest Fire Chief.
The entire report was released a week and a half ago and it said the fire chief did nothing wrong in how he handled last summer's fire.
The Fire Board spent about $25,000 for the investigation, and almost $64,000 in attorneys' fees to two separate firms. About $25,000 went to a public relations firm to answer questions from the media, and $2,000 was spent on copies of the report.
