We typically think of this time of the year as cold and flu season. But there’s another common ailment that really has a hold of the kids on the south side of town… strep throat.

That’s what we’re hearing from Dr. Joseph Corrigan with Colorado Springs Health Partners.

He says he’s seeing more of it that he’s seen in a long time.

The biggest symptom is a sore throat. But you’ll also notice a fever. This isn’t like a cold where you have a cough and congestion.

Dr. Corrigan says strep throat usually affects school-aged kids. But anyone can get it.

Strep is very treatable with antibiotics. But without them, this can last for a week or two and is very contagious with the potential for serious complications.

So it’s best to get to the doctor at the first sign of strep, no matter your age.
