The weather is not even cold yet. But already, local doctors are seeing symptoms of a virus we normally see in winter.

Croup is going around this week. That comes from Dr. Steven Reich with Evans Army Community Hospital. He says they're seeing a lot of kids with croup coming in with the typical complaints: sore throat, hoarseness and a barky cough that sounds a bit like a seal.

You can run a humidifier in your child's room. But the best advice is to call your pediatrician. The most important message the doctors on Fort Carson want to get out is that croup season is here.

You want to take it seriously if you suspect symptoms in your child, because this virus can lead to hospitalizations and it's very contagious.
