What's Going Around - May 10, 2011

It can be so easy this time of year to ignore a sore throat, because of allergies. But strep throat is still going around. So you need to know how to tell the difference.

That's what we're hearing from Dr. Steven Reich, with Evans Army Hospital on Fort Carson. He says he's seeing a few kids with strep right now and that their moms say their child's school is quote "full" of strep.

So here's what to look for, beyond the first symptom of a sore throat. Dr. Reich says - no cold symptoms is a big one. He also says you should watch for a fever.

And remember, strep is very contagious. So remind kids that if they have a sore throat, they shouldn't share drinks.
