Our kids are having trouble with a virus that hits every year. It’s called RSV. It’s a lot like a cold. But it can cause kids to end up in the hospital. We saw a lot of it this time last year.
Dr. Steven Reich with Evans Army Community Hospital is seeing a lot of it again.
You'll notice a fever, coughing, a runny nose, a sore throat and an earache in your child. Your child could also have trouble breathing. So if you notice symptoms like this, keep a close eye on your child because, if severe enough, these symptoms could result in hospitalization. Dr. Reich says he’s put lots of kids on oxygen to help them recover.
He tells us good hand washing is one of the most important ways to keep this from spreading through the family. He also says it’s important to keep kids out of daycare if they have it, because RSV is very contagious.
