It may be cold and flu season. But it's also the season for issues, like bronchitis and sinusitis as well. That's because they're often complications of a cold or flu. We're hearing about this from doctors all over the area right now.
The folks with EmergiCare in Colorado Springs had this information for us. They're seeing a lot of sinusitis, which is most often caused by the common cold. Symptoms include think yellow-green discharge from the nose, nasal congestion, headache, pain/swelling around the eyes, nose and forehead, bad breath, cough and fever. They're seeing it in both kids and adults. Treatments can include decongestants, over the counter pain relievers, saline nasal spray, steroid nasal spray and in some cases, antibiotics.
But, again, sinusitis is usually caused by a cold. We're hearing about upper respiratory issues like that from the providers with Colorado Springs Health Partners. we had multiple doctors tell us about this, ranging from colds... all the way to the flu.
Dr. Caryn Baldauf offered this explanation about how to tell the difference: in both cases... you'll notice a sore throat and nasal congestion. But with the flu, you'll also notice muscle aches and fever.
You’ll want to talk to your doctor to make sure these symptoms don't get worse and give you even more complications.
