Gastroenteritis remains a problem again this week. That’s the stomach bug we’ve been talking about. Colds are also an issue. But there’s also something else to be aware of.
Infectious mononucleosis is going around and it can leave you feeling tired or weak for weeks or even months. We’re learning about this from the physicians with EmergiCare in Colorado Springs.
The symptoms include: fatigue, weakness, sore throat, fever, swollen lymph nodes, enlarged tonsils, headache, rash, abdominal pain and night sweats.
This is a virus, so antibiotics won’t work. But rest and hydration will help. It’s also important that you see a doctor, especially if you have pain on the left-side of your abdomen. That’s because, if you have mono, you’re at risk for spleen enlargement or rupture.
Don’t forget – this virus passes along easily with things like kissing, which is why it’s called “the kissing disease.”
It can also be passed along with coughing, sneezing or sharing a glass with someone.
