Why The Video Looks Shaky (Don Ward)
Updated: 06/18/2013 - We did a quick helicopter tour of the Black Forest burn area. Someone asked why the video looks shaky.
It’s cold and flu season. So it’s not a bit surprise that the flu is going around. But it’s still important to talk about. We’re also learning about a contagious skin infection popping up as well.
First, let’s talk about the flu. We’re learning about that from Dr. Melissa Devalon with the Briargate Office for Colorado Springs Health Partners. She’s seeing it in adults right now. Symptoms include a high fever, achiness, cough and sore throat. These symptoms can last for a week. The best advice is to get lots of rest and lots of fluids. But don’t forget that it’s not too late to get a flu shot. There’s still time for it to be affective for the rest of the flu season.
Meanwhile, the doctors at EmergiCare in Colorado Springs are seeing impetigo going around right now. This is highly contagious and most commonly seen in infants and kids. Symptoms include red sores on the face, typically around the mouth and nose. Those sores can rupture and ooze and form a yellow-brown crust. It causes itching and blisters. It can be really uncomfortable. Impetigo is definitely treatable, but you need to be seen by a doctor. If left untreated, this infection can get worse and lead to more serious complications. You’ll probably be prescribed topical or oral antibiotics. But you are considered contagious for 24-hours after you’ve started antibiotics.
For both impetigo and influenza, wash your hands and practice good hygiene to keep germs at bay.
