Something's bugging you, southern Colorado... bugs. And those bug bites are getting infected.

That's according to Dr. Steven Reich with Colorado Springs Health Partners. He tells me he's seen a lot of infected insect bites over the last week.

Here's his advice if you get bitten: use a warm compress over the bite and hydrocortisone cream if it's itchy. But you’ll want to see the doctor if the bite gets redder, has drainage or is becoming more painful. What you *don't* want to do is pop it. Dr. Reich says that's a bad idea.

So what about bug bite prevention? Insect repellant with DEET is your best defense. Dr. Reich reminds all of us that it's considered safe for kids over two-months of age. But read the label carefully and follow all the precautions.

Hopefully that will help you have a safe, bug-bite free summer.
