Usually this time of year, we're talking about allergies and the importance of getting your physical if you want to play sports. But this summer has been busy for bugs.
Last week, we talked about a stomach bug. This week, we have a warning about strep throat.
That comes from Dr. Steven Reich. He's with Colorado Springs Health Partners on the southwest side of town. He's seen two cases of strep in the last couple of weeks.
Dr. Reich has seen strep throat present with fever, stomach ache, headache and a rash. You'll also notice pain when you swallow.
Here's what you need to know. Strep will go away on its own. But you may be uncomfortable. Your doctor can prescribe antibiotics. That will shorten the time you're contagious. you may also take Tylenol or Motrin to help with pain and fever. Talk to your doctor about the treatment plan that's right for you.
