We all deal with tummy troubles at some point in the family, whether it's from a virus or just an upset stomach. If your child is vomiting, you want to know the best way to help. Many folks think forcing fluids is best, but maybe not.
That's according to Dr. Steven Reich with Colorado Springs Health Partners. He's on the southwest side of town.
He offers this advice to parents in 3 simple steps. First, if your child is vomiting, Dr. Reich says keep their stomach empty for 3-4 hours. After that, resume clear liquids in very small amounts for about 6-8 hours. Then start a bland, starchy, low-fat mild solid diet for a day or two.
Dr. Reich says forcing fluids too soon can cause a continuous vomiting cycle. So take things slower and your child will soon be on the mend.
