We've had some sick kiddos in 2010. The good news is we're seeing less RSV. Now there's something else going around... gastroenteritis.
That's according to Dr. Steven Reich with Colorado Springs Health Partners. He's on the southwest side of town.
Here's what he's seeing. The main symptoms are diarrhea and vomiting. Because of these symptoms, dehydration can set in quickly with young kids. So be aware of that. Other kids just have belly pain.
Because of that threat of dehydration, you want to make sure your child gets lots of fluids and lots of rest. From there, talk to your doctor about the best course of action for your child.
Also going around this week... oore croup. That's also according to Dr. Reich.
Here's a look at the symptoms: as we've reported, you'll notice a fever, hoarseness, a runny nose and then a barky cough that is usually worse at night.
Here's what you can do: use a humidifier, because dry air can make a cough worse. Give your child warm fluids if he/she is over 4-months old. Warm fluids can help relax vocal chords. Also, never let anyone smoke around your child - that can make croup worse.
