Updated: 05/20/2013 - Two weekends left to catch one great show!
For two months now, we've been talking about RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). This virus has hit kids in every part of Southern Colorado and put many of them in the hospital.
That's according to Dr. Steven Reich with Colorado Springs Health Partners in the southwest part of town. We've talked about the symptoms. But here they are again.
It starts out very much like a cold. You'll notice a fever, coughing, a runny nose, a sore throat and an earache in your child. Your child could also have trouble breathing.
So keep a close eye on your child because, if severe enough, these symptoms could result in hospitalization. This virus is being reported by multiple doctors in our area. So be aware... if you haven't seen it yet in your child, it's still a possibility.
Now, on to some good news. Here's what's NOT going around... the flu. We should be in the thick of it. But none of the health care providers we work with are reporting it. However, that doesn't mean we're out of the woods yet. Health officials say we could still see a late flu outbreak. We'll keep you posted.
