For two weeks now, local kids have been dealing with a virus that can lead to pretty serious complications. It's bronchiolitis.

Last week, we heard about it in the southwest part of Colorado Springs. Now it's happening in the Briargate area.

That's according to Dr. Michael Halenkamp with Colorado Springs Health Partners. Bronchiolitis is a viral infection affecting the small air passages in the lungs. it usually affects kids under 2.

Here's what you'll notice: a cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, fever and nasal flaring in infants. To keep those symptoms from getting worse, here's what he says you can do: get lots of fluids, use a humidifier and get lots of rest.

Since bronchiolitis is a viral infection, antibiotics won't work. But keep an eye on those symptoms and if they get worse, call your doctor.

Remember, this virus can lead to asthma or even pneumonia.
