KKTV continues to get reports of flu-like symptoms throughout Southern Colorado. Many of these cases will not be tested for H1N1. And here's why: these cases are presumed to be H1N1 because the seasonal flu is not around this time of year. It's still too early.
So here's a look at the symptoms you will notice in this virus. This information comes from the Centers for Disease Control and is based on hospitalized cases, which are the most severe.
93% of cases so far have presented with a fever. A cough is another common symptom. That is followed by shortness of breath, fatigue and chills. An uncommon symptom is vomiting. That has only shown up in 29% of cases so far.
To treat these symptoms, you'll want to first break the fever. So you can use Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
Cough syrup can be used for the cough. Also, as the doctors always tell us, rest and fluids are key. If symptoms persist, visit your physician.
You also want to keep this illness from spreading. First, stay home from work and school. Also, wash your hands a lot. This is especially important in young people because according to the CDC, the majority of H1N1 cases so far are in folks 24 and younger.
