Summer officially begins this weekend. So of course you wouldn’t expect to be fighting off the flu. But a flu-like illness is making the rounds in adults. That’s according to Dr. Tom Bartlett with Mountain View Medical Group. He’s in the central part of Colorado Springs.
He says this flu-like illness comes on fast, within 4-6 hours. You’ll notice muscle pain, chills, sweats, a fever and a runny nose. Dr. Bartlett says you can treat the symptoms with over-the-counter pain relievers and decongestants. Expect the illness to last for 24-48 hours.
Dr. Bartlett says all of these cases have tested negative for H1N1.
In kids this week, what’s going around the pediatric offices is definitely looking more summer-like.
Dr. Steven Reich with Colorado Springs Health Partners on the southwest side of town says the tide is turning to injuries from things like playing outside or riding bikes. So, Dr. Reich reminds everyone to wear proper safety gear. And don’t forget to put on that sunscreen to avoid sunburns.
It’s good advice no matter what your age.
