Kids in the southwest part of the springs are having sore throats. For many of these kids, it's just that… a sore throat. But some of them are also coming down with strep throat.

On the southwest side of town, Dr. Steven Reich with CSHP says he's seeing a few cases of strep throat.

The first symptom is a sore throat. But that is also followed by a fever, swollen tonsils and white or yellow spots on the back of the throat.

Strep throat is a bacterial infection, so it can be treated with antibiotics. But strep will go away on its own. Just be careful… according to web.md, if you don't take antibiotics, you can be contagious for 2-3 weeks after you're feeling better.

Once again, as always, the best way to prevent strep is to wash your hands.
