If your child has had trouble with a barky cough, they're not alone. Croup is going around.
That's according to Dr. Alan Garscadden. He's with CSHP on the East Side of the Springs.
He says he's seeing croup in kids from age four to age ten. Here's a look at the symptoms:
He says you'll notice a hoarseness, and then a barky cough that's always worse at night. Dr. Garscadden says your child will need lots of fluids and lots of humidity, so use a humidifier. But your child may need to be seen for medication.
Also going around this week... something that's affecting both kids and adults...gastroenteritis.
That's happening in the Fountain and Security areas according to Nurse Practitioner Virginia Quiroz, also with CSHP.
She's seeing nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and a low grade fever. She recommends a bland diet, clear liquids and lots of rest. She says it lasts about 7-10 days, but if you can't control vomiting or become dehydrated, it's time to be seen.
