We’re in the thick of flu season. If you haven’t gotten it yet, it could be headed your way… especially in the Briargate area.

Dr. Michael Halenkamp says influenza is What’s Going Around his office. He’s with Colorado Springs Health Partners.

You’re going to notice fever, headache, tiredness, dry cough, stuffy nose and muscle aches. If you notice these symptoms, get to the doctor. It’s a big myth that there’s no treatment for the flu.

Beyond the rest and getting lots of fluids, your doctor can prescribe anti-viral medication like Tamiflu and Relenza to help shorten symptoms by about a day.

But you have to get to the doctor within 48-hours of the start of your symptoms.

Also going around this week… viral laryngitis.

That’s according to Dr. Tom Bartlett with Mountain View Medical Group.

He tells us it starts out like a cold. You’ll notice a runny nose, a sore throat, fever and then you might lose your voice.

So, here’s what you do. Dr. Bartlett says get some over-the-counter pain medication like Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Use cough and cold medicines and don’t forget to rest your voice.

He says it’s going to last about five to ten days.
