An elementary school student was taken into custody after reportedly bringing an Airsoft gun to school Thursday.

Trinidad police say the 10-year-old boy discharged the gun on the playground at Fisher's Peak Elementary, hitting three other students with pellets. None of the students were seriously injured. They were all treated by the school nurse.

Police say the school's staff went through training at the beginning of the school year on what to do if a weapon was brought onto school grounds. The police department praised the school for their response Thursday morning.

“I would like to commend Ms. Gallegos and her staff for following the training set in place for this type of situation,” Chief Charles Glorioso said in a statement, “They did exactly what they have been trained to do.”
