Second Flu Shot Needed For Some Children

By: KKTV

A second flu shot is now due for some children, if this is the first season they’ve had the vaccination.

The health department says children between six months and 8 years old in that category should get two doses at least four weeks apart. Little ones who need the second shot, but don’t get it, are vulnerable to contracting the flu. They are also more vulnerable to complications from the flu.

Four hundred and twenty-five people have been hospitalized for the flu in Colorado this season. Seven people have died, including two children.

I don't know what else to say. One cannot speak on an individual basis when speaking about public health. There are always allergies and occasional bad reactions to any drug/vaccines. But to suggest that all vaccines are some evil conspiracy created by money hungry drug companies is absurd. There are thousands of people who have dedicated their lives to create vaccines to infectious diseases and there can be no arguement that the modern world is a better place because of it. Autism is a scary thing, it would be nice if there was a known cause. One thing that could be blamed. I would never suggest that Autism is something to be ignored only that the evidence exists that there is no link between the vaccines and autism. Dr. Wakefield has been disproven, not by the drug companies but by his peers in the scientific community. If you choose to continue to believe in conspiracy theories no one can stop you. I can only urge you to read for yourself and choose to keep your mind open.

@A: 'children getting sick in droves'?? Kinda exaggerating your facts, right? Dr. Wakefield's license was revoked because he spoke the truth, and it was hitting the pocketbooks of the big drug companies. After my g'baby got her MMR, she came down with 106* fever, and had seizures. Doc said, maybe she's allergic to the shot, better cancel others. Parents of autistic children have been interviewed and stated: "He/She was fine until he/she got her shots!" It's called 'Cause & Effect'. Autism is an epidemic, (THERE'S YOUR DROVES!!), and they haven't cleaned up the shots' ingredients YET! We'll never know the truth from the billion dollar industry, what do they care..only about the almighty dollar. That's proven by the drug commercials that keep playing even though certain drugs have been known to CAUSE the diseases they're being taken to prevent..hip fractures; etc.

What do you suggest @M? Remove children from all environmental influences...food, water, plastics, toys, television, soaps and lotions? It is astounding that one scientist could create this drama. Dr Wakefield was a gastroenterologist and a transplant surgeon in the UK. His original paper attempts to link small bowl disease to autism and somehow he made the leap to the MMR vaccine (something to do with allergies). He is not a neurologist or an infectious disease specialist. His work has been debunked and criminal charges have been made against him. His license has been removed. In short this is a closed issue. Meanwhile, children are getting sick in droves. Diseases that were essentially erradicated in the western world are re-emerging and public health has taken a huge slide backward. Autism is a complicated disease I doubt there is going to end up being one root cause. But I honestly don't know. from the sci. amer article "fear is far easier to ignite than to extinguish"

@A: Perhaps then you can explain why Autism strikes 1 in every 110 children born? Until we know why this happens, we need to stop whatever we're putting in their system, from birth. The billion dollar drug industry will not study nor give an unbiased report.

Actually the ones needing a second flu shot would be those who live right on the freeways, those who live in the rain forest, those whose mother was over 60 when they were born, and those who watch Mr. Rogers repeats every day. We need a vax vs unvaxed study now. It would not be unethical because there are thousands and thousands of unvaccinated children in the US. Why isn't it being done?

Take at least 2000 IU Vitamin D3 daily (or even almost daily), and you will be less likely to get the flu or even a cold.

WOW. You people are sadly misinformed. I do not understand where all this vaccine fear comes from. Fear of the unknown I suppose. Flu vaccines are not 100% effective in all people. The older you get, the less effective the vaccine is. In addition, there are many circulating flu viruses. The vaccine only protects against 3. This year it appears that the 3 strains in the vaccine are circulating so it's a good one. I just looked at the CDC surveillance data and it appears that the most common strain in CO is the H1N1...the same one from last year. It will continue to circulate until everyone is exposed or protected via vaccine. As for the autism fears they are incorrect (refer to http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=fear-and-consequences) Please read this article. This is a serious public health issue. Please inform yourself before you spread unfounded fears.

The only people who would require a flu shot ( and I'm skeptic there also) are chronicially ill people! A healthy body does NOT need the stress of a flu-shot. Here’s another concern: Except for about 8 million doses, the flu vaccine contains a preservative, thimerosal, that is 49 percent mercury, a known neurotoxin. While the latest research seems to disprove any link between thimerosal vaccines and autism in children, the debate still rages, and several states have prohibited the use of thimerosal in children’s vaccines. Yet supplies of mercury-free flu vaccine are limited due to man-ufacturing capacity

There is enough information out there that flu shots are all but worthless. I have several co-workers that have had them and are dropping like flies with the flu. I haven't had one for as long as I can remember and have never come down with the flu, plus there are significant risks involved with taking the vaccine, please don't do it, don't believe the scare tactics and just make sure you have excellent nutrition and rest.
