Ellicott Schools will be starting late Monday to help students and faculty cope with the death of a young student.

A fourth grader at Ellicott Elementary died Thursday just after school let out.

"Because of this tragic event, and the implications that it will have on students, staff and the community, we will have a late start for students," elementary school principal Joe Torrez told 11 News.

School will begin at 10 a.m., with no morning preschool. Staff is asked to report to the school library at 8 a.m. for a meeting.

Torrez says school officials have reached out to the child's family "to provide any support that may be needed."

Counseling resources will be available Monday for students and staff.

A spokesman with the Sheriff's Office said the child died of natural causes and there is no criminal investigation.
