District 20 Start Times To Change Next Year

The morning bells will ring at different times for schools in Academy School District 20 next year. The district says the new schedule will streamline transportation and help students focus.

All traditional high schools will start at 7:45 a.m. instead of the current start times, which are as early as 7:05 a.m. Elementary schools will start no later than 8:45 a.m. and those students will be home by 4:30 p.m.

The district says the later start time is expected to improve attendance and focus among the high school students.

The schedule changes are also designed to reduce the number of transportation tiers from four to three. That reduction means the middle school and high school students in some areas will ride the same bus.

“Many in our community have long been concerned about how early our high schools start,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark Hatchell. “A recent task force studied our transportation services and did recommend that start times be changed if transportation efficiencies could be gained.”

Did it take D-20 100 staff members to come up with this new schedule? It is the most wasteful district in Colorado. Don't they have anything better to do with taxpayer money?

Whatever. Colorado still ranks in lower three in regards to education funding. Don't see what changing the schedule will do besides probably have more sleepy teenagers in class, that is, if they make it to class on time.

@Mayor Ryan, what were you drunk when you wrote that comment, it made no sense people like you have to always find something to complain about. You are a complete moron and by the way no one cares if you don't like the schedule because it is what it is and your pathetic rambling and Ron Paul "nut job" political stump has nothing to do with school start times. No wonder he will never have a shot at being President, because he is as crazy or drunk as you are. Next time read the story before you comment you ignorant little twerp.

I don't like the schedule. But because I believe in the free market unlike the rest of you, I will send my child to a school that accommodates best. That being said, do I get a refund from the money you stole from me to pay for other people? I know you all love federal government telling you regulations, that is why you didn't vote Ron Paul.
