District Closes Schools After Reports Of Possible Shooting, Bomb Threat

Students in one southern Colorado school district were closed Monday following a bomb threat and reports of a possible shooting.

The South Conejos School District superintendent told 11 News that over the weekend, there were rumors in the community that there could be a shooting at either the high school or elementary school.

Then at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, someone reported a bomb threat through the district's "Safe 2 Tell" tip line. The bomb threat was not for a specific school.

The high school and the building housing the elementary and middle schools were closed Monday while police and the Conejos County Sheriff's Office investigated. Both buildings were swept for bombs; nothing was found.

The superintendent said authorities are still trying to determine fact from fiction.

School is scheduled for Tuesday.

The schools are located in Antonito, Colo., which is about three hours southwest of Colorado Springs.
