An Air Force Academy cadet was honored Tuesday morning for saving the life of a fellow fencer.
Cadet Madeleine Girardot is a sophomore fencer who was competing at the North American Cup in Virginia Beach in January.
The Air Force Academy fencing team went out to eat after the tournament and ended up sitting near another group of fencers from Colorado Springs.
During the meal, one of those fencers, Helen Landwehr, started choking. That's when Girardot sprang into action and did the Heimlich maneuver.
Landwehr attends Air Academy High School.
