A woman was run over by her own car Wednesday afternoon. She was rushed to a hospital, but did not survive her injuries.

She's identified as 63-year-old Maria Lopez.

The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. in the 27000 block of Preston Road in Pueblo County.

Pueblo County Sheriff's Office investigators say she had accidentally placed her vehicle’s transmission in neutral instead of park.

When the vehicle began to roll backwards, Lopez attempted to re-enter the vehicle. She lost her footing and the vehicle ran over her.

How terrible. It comes home to me because I was out of my car and got packages out of the trunk. The car was running and as I went to go into the house it jumped into reverse and started moving backwards. I tried to jump in to stop it but was too late. The car backed across the road, ran over a mailbox and into a field. The field was soft and it stopped in the field. Our prayers to the lady and her family. Retired in Kansas

Review the status of all the drivers in your family with your agent. Most discounts apply only to one portion of the auto insurance policy but still you should check "Clearance Auto" website.

How very tragic for this woman and her family. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.
