Suspect Identified In Stabbing Attempt At Mall

Pueblo police are saying what started out as a theft soon turned into a robbery when the female suspect attempted to “stab” the security guard with a pen in order to get away on November 16 at the Pueblo Mall.

The suspect has been identified as Jewelsette Cruz, 30. Police are working to obtain a warrant for her arrest.

Dillard’s security team stated they witnessed Cruz first select six pairs of jeans (estimated at $90.00 each), then attempt to leave the store without paying. Cruz was stopped outside of the store and questioned about the shoplifting and requested to come back inside. When the security guard attempted to escort Cruz back into the store, police said she became extremely combative and attempted to stab the security guard multiple times with a pen.

During the altercation, Cruz's purse strap broke and she ran off. Security officers gave a short chase before losing sight of her. The purse was described as a blue plaid “Juicy Couture” which was later searched; however no identification of the suspect was located inside the purse, only makeup and personal items.
