Police are searching for a man who carjacked a woman in a busy parking lot in broad daylight.
According to a spokesperson with the Pueblo Police Department, an employee at the Lowe's on Highway 50 was walking to her car just after 9 a.m. Tuesday when a man came up behind her and demanded her keys. He then reportedly forced her into the passenger seat of her own car and drove to the Rodeway Inn about a quarter-mile away.
Police say he stopped at the hotel and ordered the woman to get into the backseat. The woman grabbed her chance to escape and made a run for it. The suspect drove away in the stolen vehicle, and the victim--whose phone was stolen along with the car--went to the hotel and got help.
The stolen car was found unoccupied in the San Luis Valley between Alamosa and Monte Vista. The suspect has still not been found.
Police say the suspect will face charges of motor vehicle theft, kidnapping and robbery once located.
If you have any information that can help police, you are asked to call the Pueblo Police Department at 719-549-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 719-542-STOP.
